Chassis tab

Configuration Equipment Equipment Types Equipment Types view Equipment Type form Chassis tab

The Chassis tab displays the various properties that you can set for an equipment type if the General Class is Chassis. If the General Class of the equipment type is anything other than Chassis, all the fields on this tab are disabled.

If you update the Bomb Cart or Cassette check boxes on this tab, N4 propagates the change to all the existing equipment records of the selected Equipment Type in N4 and XPS. Since this change may result in a large update push to XPS each time you update the chassis type in this form, avoid making such changes during peak operation hours or use the node that you normally use for EDI processing.

The following table displays the fields on the Chassis tab grouped under the Chassis Properties, Allowed Lengths, and Usable Slots areas.

Field Name

Description

Chassis Properties

Chassis No Pick

Select this checkbox to include the chassis/cassettes used by the internal trucks in the Prime Route calculation.

Unselect this checkbox to exclude the external chassis (line/road) from the Prime Route calculation and to prevent it from being evicted from the Transfer Zone.

Single Container Only

Select the check box if the chassis type cannot receive more than one container. For example, if you have a 40’ chassis that can accept a 40' container but cannot accept two 20' containers, you should select the Single Container Only check box for that equipment type.

If the check box is not selected, it indicates that the chassis can accept more than one container.

Triaxle

Select the check box if this is a tri-axle chassis type.

Bomb Cart

Select the check box if this equipment type is a bomb cart.

If you use bomb carts at your site that are not uniquely  defined in N4, you must either uniquely identify and define every bomb cart in N4, or you must create a single Equipment Type to represent all bomb carts at your site.

N4 does not support a mixed fleet where some bomb carts are uniquely identified in N4 while others are not. If all the bomb carts at your site are not defined in N4, you must add one and only one Equipment Type with General Class = Chassis and the Bomb Cart check box selected.

For the bomb cart equipment type, you can specify the allowed container lengths for the bomb carts and also the Usable Slots and their corresponding labels.

Cassette

Select the check box if this equipment type is for cassettes.

If you are defining an equipment type for a bomb cart or cassette, then on the Chassis tab select the Bomb Cart or Cassette check box, accordingly. If you select the Cassette check box, N4 automatically clears the Has Wheels check box on the Properties tab. Likewise, if you clear the Has Wheels check box, N4 automatically selects the Cassette check box.

Record Events?

Select one of the following options if you want to enable or disable recording of events for this equipment type:

  • -- (No value selected): N4 records all the events for this equipment type.

  • All: N4 records all the events for this equipment type.

  • None: N4 does not record any events for this equipment type.

You can use this field to disable event recording for all the terminal owned equipment. For example, if you have terminal owned bomb carts that you do not want to track individually and therefore do not want to track the events recorded for these bomb carts, you can set this field to None to stop all event recording for this equipment type.

TEU

Enter the number of twenty foot equivalents (TEUs) the chassis can carry where 1 represents 20 and 2 can represent either a single 40' container or two 20' containers. Therefore, even if a 40' chassis cannot carry two 20' containers (the Single Container Only check box is selected for the chassis type) the TEU for the chassis type is still 2 to represent the single 40' container.

N4 does not validate this field in relation to any other field on this form.

Allowed Lengths (Select all the check boxes that apply to the Chassis Type.)

Accepts 20'

Select the check box if the chassis can accept 20' containers.

Accepts 40'

Select the check box if the chassis can accept 40' containers.

Accepts 45'

Select the check box if the chassis can accept 45' containers.

Accepts 48'

Select the check box if the chassis can accept 48' containers.

Accepts 53'

Select the check box if the chassis can accept 53' containers.

Accepts 24'

Select the check box if the chassis can accept 24' containers.

Accepts 30'

Select the check box if the chassis can accept 30' containers.

Usable Slots

20' SLOTS

N4 enables these check boxes only if you have selected at least one of the following check boxes in the Allowed Lengths area: Accepts 20', Accepts 24'.

These represent the slot positions on the carriage and by default are labeled as 1, 3, and 5. However, you can use the corresponding text field to specify a user-friendly label for each of these slots on a carriage.

40' SLOTS

N4 enables these check boxes only if you have selected at least one of the following check boxes in the Allowed Lengths area: Accepts 40', Accepts 45', Accepts 48', Accepts 53', or Accepts 30'.

These represent the slot positions on the carriage and by default are labeled as 2 and 4. However, you can use the corresponding text field to specify a user-friendly label for each of these slots on a carriage.

If you do not specify anything in the text field for a slot, N4 uses the default values, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to display the Slot On Carriage for a chassis.

N4 uses the slot labels defined for the 20' SLOTS and 40' SLOTS fields to display the values for the Slot On Carriage field in the following N4 and N4 Mobile forms:

The Slot on Carriage field is a part of the variform definition of the two N4 Mobile forms but is not visible by default. You have to create a database-backed variform of the forms to display this field to your users. For more information on creating a database-backed variform override: see Database Backed Variforms view in the Navis N4 Administration Mode manual.

If you define custom labels for the slots on a carriage in N4, the XPS client still displays the corresponding underlying integer values for these positions.

If you do not select any of the check boxes for the 20' SLOTS and 40' SLOTS fields, the Slot On Carriage field is disabled in the forms listed above.
